Hindu Terrorists found! Can we please hang Afzal now?

Had it not been for the American elections, the media would be abuzz with minute by minute details on the Hindu terrorism case in which almost half a dozen people (including a Hindu Sadhvi and senior army personnel) have been arrested so far. A google search reveals the frantic reporting and painstakingly written reports that are crying out for space on the headlines. A google news search on Hindu Terrorist reveals the great deal of attention this is getting on the media from Islamic countries.

There is nothing objectionable with the term Hindu Terrorist. There is a reason terrorism is treated differently from ordinary crimes. There is a strong reason to attach the ideology that causes it. The case of the Sadhvi finds its roots in the same sort of ideology that causes minorities to blow up innocent people. As the recent case of the Software Engineer (19 Lakhs per annum salary) proves, poverty etc. leading to terrorism is largely a mythical construct.

There are several things that stand out in this case.

First, there is the deafening silence from the so called Human Rights activists. We have to give them time to digest the other important news and get back to regular programming but don't hold your breath for Arundhati Roy to appear on Devil's Advocate and punch holes on the case based on conflicting media reports. No demands for a judicial inquiry either.

Second, the police have acted in pretty much the same manner in which the prior cases were dealt with - at least the recent ones. The measures included confinement, interrogation , narco analysis and forensic tests, wiretapping, cross referencing witnesses etc. There might have been some third degree involved - no loss of limb or life (except the Delhi encounter case, but a cop died too).

Given that the current course of action is yielding some success, it should be continued. Alas, if only the world was so simple.

For one thing we are dealing with a community that has a very unique way of looking at things. At least two thirds of the community globally if not more believe that 9/11 was a Jewish conspiracy. There is already demands for opening up past blast cases, even solved ones. The Shahi Imam has made statements to the effect that no Government is taking care of the community. The community leaders in Assam are all set to form a new party, riding on the sizable and growing population.

In a sense this was inevitable. Once propaganda takes root, it is hard to temper it or throttle its momentum. Clearly over the decades there has been a conscious attempt to channel real or imaginary minority discontent towards a certain political goal. Ideally the activists and secularists would want it to stop right after defeating BJP. Right about now there is no going back. The secular propaganda way overshot its original target and there is widespread discontent that does not necessarily distinguish a secular Hindu and a communal Hindu. The anger is now targeted at India Inc. as a whole. As an example, the recent IM emails excoriated the Maharashtra CM and even lashed out at Tehelka.

You can not wave the red flag of freedom and then take it away at the last moment. This beast will break through everything. The case of the Hindu Terrorist, even if dealt with a strong hand will produce the exact opposite of the intended effect.

how are the seculars taking it to Hindu terrorism? Lalu, mulayam, ibn, ndtv?

after the initial jubilance, it appears like there is a lot of silence. Is it because of the Hindu reaction - it appears to me like most Hindus are taking Hindu terrorism surprisingly well. Reactions tend to 'it is bound to happen given our state of secularism and acts of the other terrorism'. No easy condemnation appears to be forthcoming.

The seculars now have a greater task. Linking a few ministers in Madhya Pradesh would not be enough, given the Hindu reaction. They need some thing much larger - like pinning *all* terror acts starting from Parliament attack to Hindus. It appears like they are on their way.

have any of our legislatures passed resolutions condemning Hindu terrorism yet? Tamil Nadu legislature is convening tomorrow. Let us watch.

I keep going back to this Shourie article. You should read it now, if you haven't already. Or even if you have.

Yes, read that article. But the Indian scriptures are fairly complicated and long with very abstruse language and complex structures, unlike others which are like: locate infidel, decapitate etc. One could say the Mahabharata justifies Dharma Yuddha.

These are really bogus arguments. The argument about superiority of religions etc. is a feature of the Christian world. The Islamic world simply believed in conquering and subjugation.

The idea of exploring the roots of violence or terrorism came from a practical necessity - more specifically from the need to profile and also take preventive measures.

Assuming the Hindu terror incident did not take place and there were no evidence of any Hindus indulging in bomb making - it would be a natural policy of investigating agencies to look at the other angle first. Now they will look at all angles. It is natural and nothing wrong with it.

Of course the seculars will never ever stop talking about it. Unless you catch a few Sadvis each time a bomb goes off someplace, they will not be satiated now.

There are reportedly jubilations in the Muslim world that a ‘Hindu terrorist’ has been found! More then sense of exhilaration, there should have been gloom all over the world. The oldest and most tolerant religion has not produced even a single Hindu terrorist so far! In fact there was not even a muslin terrorist from India and this was the influence the Hinduism has over all the citizens of Hindustan!

Now that so called ‘Hindu terrorist’ have been found (God knows that this is too early to believe in it!) the need for searching the reasons is imminent! The reasons for gloom and cause for introspection by the Muslim world specially and rest of the world in general should be the circumstance and reasons for Hindus becoming militant whereas they have been most docile, tolerant and accommodating since generations!

Hindus are tormented and victimized since so long and are treated as soft targets world over. Their resilience and tolerance is treated as weakness. Their pardons are treated as cowardice! Their eagerness to embrace best of other religion is considered shallowness of the religion! Others claim that Hindus eagerly adopt greatness of otter religion so that bask in reflected glories oh other religion.

Alas that is not so and probably some one is trying to prove the point! Constant irritations, pin-pricks and repeated humiliation would have forced someone to retaliate!

But just even for a second we believe (without agreeing!) that the trend of Hindu militancy is there to stay then Muslims in stead of rejoicing must fear it most. The sheer number of Hindus in Hindustan must impress the Muslim militants (if there is any such term!) and they must realize that it is just impossible to eliminate or over power the Hinduism. Has Muslims not ruled us for more then 500 years? What happened thereafter? Has not Hinduism rebounded? They would be better advised to see the ground realties and come to terms – live and let live! There is no point fighting and getting killed when battle is already lost before it began!

Captain,

Hinduism has not truly rebounded, it has devolved into a fossilized version where several ages coexist. Part of the problem is that we never had a chance really. While the rest f the world had an opportunity to change on their own, we remained under occupation during the most vital era of world history. Thereafter oversecularization and economic deprivation lead to further degradation.

It is a miracle that even after all this we as a people survive with some glimmer of hope, optimism and vitality.

If true, is a sobering thought.

Despite my cynicism, here is what i think will happen: Hinduism (Sanatan Ved Dharma) will survive and may even thrive in a disaggregate form.

The idea of India may not. In any case, its only the indic religions (ved dharma, sikhism, buddhism) who subscribe to the idea of India (muslims for instance want Dar ul islam only).
With run-amok pseudo secularism, indic religions can be eviscerated, leaving india to be no more than another piece of land.

What an uncomfortable thought!
