Well, it looks like it is finally happening. Although it has not quite reached the Mandal I levels. I think the reasons are quite clear and many bloggers have elaborated on this. First of all, you have to remember that Mandal I agitations were mainly concentrated in the metros and the big cities. As a matter of fact this proves that the reservation system does not produce the desired effect at all. If it did, then it would create a lot more agitation in the rural areas and secondary cities. This proves that the quota Raj only impacts the few economically advanced areas.Secondly, Indian has made visible progress since then and young people in the metros and big cities are simply too busy making bucks. This also proves that the reservation beneficieries and victims are concentrated in the happening areas really. So, the reservation never really did or never will feed that 200 million hungry Dalits/OBCs as Mr. Mandal claimed it would. Something for Mr Arjun Singh to think about.
But I guess he has a much bigger problem to deal with. The Mandal II has much stronger campaign and this time around it is spreading like wildfire. The blogosphere is in flames.
I urge all bloggers to continue this effort. Show Mr. Arjun Singh that his version of cow-belt politics does not work anymore. Relegate him to a forgotten relic of the ancient past, where he really belongs.
