Funny

The cover from The Economist Feb 3rd Issue (subscription required).

Plenty of fun watching the socialists scurrying about, talking of import duty reduction which must be blasphemous for them.
Faced with the rising discontent over price rise, the government was on Thursday forced to offer a placebo reducing petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 and Re 1 respectively. [...]
Commerce minister Kamal Nath said, "High inflation was due to supply constraints and the industry department is looking at the gaps. If need arises imports will be made more flexible."Almost simultaneously, industry secretary Ajay Dua indicated that duties on cement, metals and paper might be reduced.
Inflation now clocking at a healthy 6.72%.

Damn these assholes, do they realize that the inflation is not "primarily" because of import duties, but low foodgrain production and rising prices thereof.

Now, this is out of chiddu's control. He sure cut a sorry figure on NDTV last night, saying "I hope, this would control the prices(or inflation)". He was talking about the reduction in fuel prices.

Talking about disparity, a liter of petrol costs Rs 49 in Maharashtra, and Rs 40 in Delhi. Sales tax disparities, and subsidies in Delhi. So that the kids of mantris can zip around clubhopping more economically, while they espouse "social justice"

I expected in-depth an analysis from you. you disappointed me.or is this new post just the first milestone and we are going to hit upon new milestones soon?
Ripz, you are absolutely *right on! (borrowed expression)
Am not so kicked about this dip in fule prices as more people venture out happily just to increase the population on already dense Indian roads.traffic jams would get more intense n hot.passionate sun creates sins around us...gawd!

The ever increasing disparity between rich & mid-rich (with high decibel consumption patterns) and poor (strugglers) is the reason behind the inflation..no,dnot touch the "Cause and Effect" point. Are the questions answered?in the way you experced them to be?

as Shadows said, it could also be due to the low food grain production...when productive fields are acquired by corporate megalomaniacs to start some nonsensical projects like 1rupee car (yewwwwwwww, stretching my imagination), this's what happens!

rich are getting richer and younger
poor are getting poorer and older (with more wrinkles)...
I demand still more in-depth analysis by Pundit over here

Shadows,

That's nothing. In Bangalore we pay 8 paise less than Rs.53 per litre of petrol. BTw, that's costliest in the whole country.

you are missing out on the point Shadows is trying to make..."workable,pragmatic fuel realisation"!
Bangaloreans pay higher price for petrol..ok, but look at the distances to be covered.smaller city, mini-metro fervently shedding its green belt still offers proximity, unless ur a blue-eyed boy of Indian economy n rumble in Electronic city, still u gys have shuttle services, whatever.
@Bangalore has relatively higher population of two wheelers, mobikes, ads of which promise higher fuel efficiency and they do deliver on that as compared to "drivig down on 4-wheels"..so would the hike pinch?may or may not.DINKs are more in Blr (Double income no kids families)...now negate shadows point....time to grab a...

Jyothsna,

The point I was trying to make was why such disparity in fuel prices. I would understand that in case the prices were not controlled, but they are govt controlled.

Why does the government give fuel subsidies to Delhi while fleecing other parts of the country

yaar Sandeep,
software engineer bankar paap kar liya hai. they think - lets tax those stinking rich IT engineers sitting on US dollars. Hence the higher taxes and fuel prices in the "Indian silicon valley" Bangalore.

When the damn fact is that not everyone gets to go abroad and make money onsite.

BarbarIndian,
Just check out this another jerk. Why do these socialist jerks play with numbers when they dont even understand the basic principles? If they do, they hide the "catch" so effectively in linguistic spins. Check out his post on IT industry cheating on growth figures, etc.

well,I did understand your POV-disparity in fuel prices.remember we did exchange conversation of such intensity earlier on R's blog too.if u observe,I gave a different twist to ur logic, by bringing in that distance (to be covered) factor..guess, u can get that fact staright: village (Vs) smaller town (Vs) mini-metro (Vs) metro...

Jyotsnay/Shadows,

My bad :( Typed it off in a hurry. I do understand Shadows' and your point. One of the main reasons why fuel is sooooo expensive in Bangalore is because of the local (Karnataka state-levied) "extra" duties. This daylight thuggery has been on for decades.

>>, unless ur a blue-eyed boy of Indian economy n rumble in Electronic city, still u gys have shuttle services, whatever.

Jyotsnay, I AM the blue-eyed boy and my company does provide shuttle services but that's beside the point. But these are really trivial. There's an apathetic lack of BASIC infrastructure here, and everybody--from the local chai walla to the PVRs and Leelas of the world--are out to suck as much as they can of the IT guys' blood. The fat salaries are merely on paper. Our tax deductions are nightmarish. The wearer knows where the shoe pinches :(

You are serious, aren't you? You are seriously trying to make out that you are an oppressed, underprivileged, victimized guy, AND you are trying to speak for all IT guys? In other words, you are the exact same duplicate copy of all the socialists who have used that language and abused our country for years. What are you going to ask for next, RESERVATIONS?
