Vote for the new Rupee symbol

These are some of the designs submitted to the Finance Ministry for a new Rupee symbol. The Economic Times has an online poll here. The prospect of using these complex characters is more alarming than the enormous expense that will be incurred, should the Government really go ahead with this thing. Perhaps the money could have been better spent on a national ID scheme.

The designs that use lines of different thickness are less likely to be accepted as are those that resemble the Hindi alphabet for R.

Our suggestion:

Doesn't it look a bit like a cow?

I like the last one R - quite a dynamic n contemporary rendition of Rupee
a few other versions have heavily borrowed its cues from Sterling pound
