What a shameless idiot
Here is a shameless self-plug:
Edited to clean up a private personal reference. My policy is to keep it clean, I hope the Gandhians]
This guy says premier institutes must have representation from rural India. This guy is peddling his ideas of egalitarianism and blogging till kingdom come about how the privileged people do not want people from the villages to take away their seats. Yet when it comes to his own turf, he does not want any competition from rural reporters. This is insane! This is what goes for socialism in our country. Of course he will keep his empire safe from encroachment while asking you and me to give up our hard earned money, our hard earned seats.

Hey barbarindian, your perceptive comment on leftwing propangandists' fear of free thought has not come a day sooner. There's this other blog, grandiosely named "the other india". A bunch of well-heeled commies get online from their comfy homes, pontificate, and plug one of the biggest corruption rackets going on in India as we speak: the NGO racket.
I posted the following on their blog. Needless to add, the censorfreaks killed it.

How the anti-dam fatcats live
Notices issued to film maker Pradeep Kishan (husband of Arundhati Roy)
Press Trust of India
Hoshangabad (MP), June 23, 2006
Notices have been issued to some noted personalities, including film maker Pradeep Kishan, asking them to remove alleged encroachment on land of a poor tribal at Vaariaam village, around three km from Pachmarhi near in Hoshangabad, officials said.
The tribal, Vijay Singh, had submitted an affidavit before the Tehsildar court accusing Kishan, noted writer Vikram Seth’s sister Aaradhana Seth and Forest department officials Nishikant Jadhav and JC Sharma of encroaching on his land to construct road leading to their lavish bungalows on the lakeside, the officials said.
The allegations were found true after a probe following which notices were issued asking them to remove the encroachment, they said. -

Thanks for the info. The Roys ran afoul of the law earlier too.

As I see it, there is nothing intuitive about the whole socialist cartel if you take away the loot. Not everyone can become a Mother Teresa. So, they claim to be Mother Teresa while eating choice cuts of meat roasted on imported bar-b-que grills with single malt scotch. Of course, you and I foot the bill, one way or the other. -

Yeah, if your daddy bankrolls several newspapers, you will win one of those award
Criticise Dilip's views as much as you want. But when you start with cheap shots like the above, you lose rational readers like me. -

Yazad,
You have a point. I think people should not be abused.
Abusers are increasing in numbers on the net.
There is a class of abusers who are fairly crooked. Since these rogues lack scruples, they maitanin two -- to be accurate, many -- faces. With one of their faces -- the seemingly civil, "reasonable" one -- they associate their real identity. The rest of their fake identities go with anonymous handles. Using these handles, these bastards let lose abuse at their opponents. The deception is fairly elaborate: they even run multiple blogs. Each of these "distinct" bloggers can be seen at the "other" blogs blowing the latters' horn.
There is a need to urgently put an end to abuse on blogs. -

Yazad,
Dilip and his dad paid Tehelka Rs 1 lakh each. Why hide this fact if Dilip has nothing to hide. Let him put a disclaimer and let readers parse it out.
Dilip put out couple articles supporting his dads legal case too - that's a story for another day. Do you or Dilip deny this?
Objectivity cuts both ways. -

Shoummo, while you're right that there's probably not enough news about rural India in our papers, I'm not so sure it requires the papers to actually have "rural reporters" on their staff. That Cal daily you're talking about, last time I checked some years ago (I used to get it at home here in Bom) did make an attempt to have some serious news, often about rural India. (And I promise you -- saying so has nothing to do with the fact that I won one of those rural reporting award a few years ago).
