The Centre on Monday compared its legislation granting 27% quota to OBCs in admission to educational institutions to Caesar's wife and stressed before the Supreme Court that it was, like her, above suspicion.

"It was not brought in to subserve votebank politics, but to help those who genuinely needed help to shrug off backwardness caused by centuries of oppression," solicitor-general G E Vahanvati argued before a five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan. As far as I remember Caeser divorced his wife on the grounds that she must be above suspicion. By the same logic, they should just dump this scheme.
