Lying not so subtly

Several years ago an unfortunate riot happened in Gujarat. In response, noted author Arundhati Roy issued blatant lies after lies to the press, for instance a fictitious incident in which the daughters of a Muslim minister had been raped and murdered (*) (it later turned out that they were alive and kickin' someplace else).

Did she have the right to be so dishonest to achieve her political goals?

What about leading newspapers such as Tehelka, Hindu and CNN-IBN who are clearly so biased in their reportage? What about the Gujarat body count (or for that matter the mass Buddhist conversion count)? Why does it vary so widely from coverage to coverage, blog to blog? How about noted journalist Dilip D'Souza, who reports the Danish cartoons and other inconvenient incidents only after their sell by dates are long past? Do insinuations count as lies? How about half-truths?
Folks who support or harbor terrorists are liable to be punished to the maximum extent of the law. As you might have noticed, a lot of people are writing in support of the Naxalites these days. Does journalistic freedom cover their asses from the long arms of the law? If so, to what extent and does that support extend to when there is a not-so-friendly Government at the center?
The Indian Penal Code surely has sections for perjury, libel and slander but do they cover such slimeballs who are screwing up our country? What about the court of the almighty above? When these scums make it upstairs (i.e. the fun ends), will they be given the judgment they deserve?

(*) Funny that despite the many sexual assaults on the Aam Aurat, she thought it was necessary to mention the rape of a "Minister's daughters". I guess at some level her social inclusion principles can't quite equate the rape of a poor woman to that of the daughter of a rich and powerful man.

The dorky slimeball in question had actually hinted at inviting US and other West powers to invade India when NDA ruled. Google for 'Stauffenberg' and 'dcubed' and you should get plenty hits.

FYI: Stauffenberg attempted to kill Hitler hence patriot per dcubed's logic; probabily dcubed was having some wet dreams of of had "taking out" then then NDA PM or Home Minister.

why barbar is so dishonest to achieve his / her political goals?

(also both links above come from months before barbar ever mentioned danish cartoonist).

Yeah, basically said the cartoons were offensive. Also, compare the number of posts after the cartoon controversy and the "art" controversy, the tone and substance, arguments made and other redundant details added.

BarBar,bil kul barabar bola.
But who will file a complain against these journalist? General Public? never they neither have access or are so much awed by the power of media.

Some other org.say RSS? No they too wont, because they do not give them a damn and on other hand are rather as they get their support more consolidated.

Political parties, never for obvious reasons,(yes) i exclude Maya from this list.

Now suppose some 'Insane' man do take panga and take them to court and fortunately win the case too. Then who foot the bill against the damages levied on these journalists? The Org.They work for? NO.Journalists? NO.then who pay damages? It is Insurance company,my dear.

All most all TV channels and newspapers are insured against professional liability insurance.

Since my humble firm provides this coverage to Journalists so I can say with authority that the premium we charge for providing this indemnity cover is the lowest among all the professionals simply because claim ratio is not only the minimum but almost nil.

Since your truly provides this cover to a leading channel and a News paper in so far 10 years of my career in this i have not seen a single claim.

So I feel it is much better to expose their lies in public. And for that I visit you often and appreciate your good work.
carry on Pal,u are doing very good.

It is unfortunate that Dilip is keeping up his attack on our poor blogger friend, confused.

"What if a man wrote on his personal, but publicly available, website about someone he disagreed with: "Someone please kill this scumbag!" What if a newspaper columnist wrote in a column about a politician: "I hope one of you readers will murder this creep!""

This is absolute nonsense. Perhaps he is confused about the relationship between a Penal Code and a court of law.

There is simply no way anyone can dream of getting an outburst like that prosecuted under the said sections. You must first establish an element of criminal culpability in the mind. These legal bars are hard to meet and almost impossible to convict. These tactics however will scare the young and the powerless. It is also true that it is possible for the well connected political class to subject someone to the extreme judicial delays while the accused navigates his/her way through the legal system.

Read more on "Mens rea" This is the standard test of criminal culpability in common law.

Baroda Art controversy mentioned in:
Take Flight
On Consequence
Fine Art

Alluded to in several other posts, Killing softly, shout fire etc. At least dozen entries on recent Hindu related intolerance incidences. Again, the trick pulled is to involve any Hindu related intolerance to RSS/VHP factions. Although many of these were private citizen initiatives.

I would be happy to know if Dilip published any article in a newspaper just when the Danish cartoons were hot.

RC,

According to one commenter Dilip wondered aloud what would happen if a BJP insider off'ed Advani. Now, I think this is equivalent to all those calls for heads of artists etc.

Socialists tend to be plenty violent. A brief visit to Shivam or Krish's blogs sends chill down your spine. They are mini fascists, cowards in their real lives but with their masters in control they are capable of unleashing unthinkable amount of violence on those who disagree with them. Dilip is the same breed, merely older and milder.

barbar starts with: reports the Danish cartoons and other inconvenient incidents only after their sell by dates are long past.

when that is shown to be lie, barbar changes his accusation to: basically said the cartoons were offensive. Also, compare the number of posts after the cartoon controversy and the "art" controversy, the tone and substance, arguments made and other redundant details added.

now barbar is reduced to "alluded to".

quite a come down, from "long past sellby date" to "alludded to".

Dilip wondered aloud what would happen if a BJP insider off'ed Advani.

where? give reference? or will you be dishonest about that also? just make claim and keep silence?

i thought hindutva sympathisers were at least honest unlike sociallists?

barbarindian said...

No so fast, nothing was really shown to be a lie.

You said 2 posts, I said three in which he mentioned the art controversy. You might want to verify that again. I said apart from these three, he alluded to the controversy in some other posts. Let me repeat: 3 direct posts, perhaps 2 indirect on the art controversy.

He never wrote a post or a news item condemning the violence against the cartoons, so far as I can tell. He made two blog posts. In one he brought up a 10 year old convenient controversy. In another he brought up a weird moral position which is not a position at all.

Dilip wrote a column (perhaps more than one) suggesting US should invade India because the same conditions that existed in Iraq applied to India at the time. You have to be naive not to catch the Advani offing reference.

again.

barbar starts with: reports the Danish cartoons and other inconvenient incidents only after their sell by dates are long past.

after much wriggling, barbar's newest positon is - He never wrote a post or a news item condemning the violence against the cartoons, so far as I can tell. He made two blog posts.

quite comedown from "reports only after their sellby dates".

then barbar says: According to one commenter Dilip wondered aloud what would happen if a BJP insider off'ed Advani.

when aksed to give reference, barbar says: Dilip wrote a column (perhaps more than one) suggesting US should invade India because the same conditions that existed in Iraq applied to India at the time. You have to be naive not to catch the Advani offing reference.

quite a comedown and complete change from "commenter says he wondered aloud what would happen if a bjp insider offed advani."

one more time, i thougt hindutva sympathizers were at least honest, compared to socilists?

Once again let's not get too excited. Your basic issues are as follows:

1. I am lying about Dilip's not writing about Danish cartoons. Let's stipulate that I made insinuations similar to those Dilip makes every day.

2. I made a comment about Dilip with reference to something he said regarding Advani. Please read my comment again. I did not say Dilip said so, I said a commenter said that Dilip said so. So the question of my lying is not applicable at all. I am quoting another commenter and clearly stating that. In fact you are resorting to deceit in this case. You are trying to pass off what I attributed to another commenter as something I said.

I read the said column sometime ago. I think Dilip clearly suggested that the US should invade India. This is treasonous man. I think I should write a post about it.

barbarindian said...

Even in this brief conversations you lied twice.

1. also, number of posts about "art" contrversy = 2. (pls go see).

Actually, there are three.

2. You tried to attribute to me something I did not say.

So, what is the latest Hindutva fascist vs. socialist score?

truti said...

Barbar,

Krish and Shivam aren't fascists or socialists. They subscribe to national-socialism/communism - an ideology that believes in inevitability of human destiny; organised violence against minorities; history as a mechanical artifact that can be wound and unwound; organised suppression of diverse viewpoints using the self-same means that are condemnable when used by their opponents; rooting for the behaviour of the basest elements of a society; etc.

Indian (or should I call you dcubed):
where? give reference? or will you be dishonest about that also? just make claim and keep silence

First things first: It was I who alluded to Dorky Dilip dcubed D'Souza dropping hints of NDA to be wiped out by foreign invaders or locals. It wasn't BarbarIndian. Read first comment of this thread.
You want reference - I'll provide it to you. Along with over 100 pages of user comments of a prominent website (whose modertators happen to be God fearing Kerala Christians). But why should I, given the intelluctal dishonesty you've displayed in our previous discussion?

Last time you claimed that my accusations against Dilip and his dad were "unfound allegations". When presented evidence for websites (non owned or operated by any of "hindutavadis") you beat a hasty retreat without even so much as an acknowledgement that you were wrong. Still believe that Dilip and his dad not contributed Rs 1 lakh each to Tehelka? Still believe that Dilip's pappa was a honest actvists wanting to take cause of Behrampada muslims to UN when under oath he couldn't remember where Behramapada was? Still drinking that typist Kool-Aid that dcubed cares for zhopapatti walas when his dad and demolish zhopadpattis for building contractors?

Sorry, you have lost any claims of asking for reference - atleast from me.

If you believe you claims here at BarbarIndian are 'dishonest' bugger off to your typist blog. You are abusing the hospitality provided by BarbarIndian to spew your bile without even attempting to engage in a honest debate.
